Lake Wakatipu is an Otago Fish & Game lake decision for anglers who need the Wakatipu row, not a broad Queenstown fishing overview. The current Otago regulations make most of the lake an all-year FSB water, but they also close Queenstown Bay and the Black Bay wharf area commonly known as Walter Peak Jetty.
That makes this page different from Lake Wanaka. Wanaka's named closure is the township wharf and marina shoreline. Wakatipu's named closures are Queenstown Bay and Walter Peak Jetty, and those names should be checked before a short visitor session is treated as simple lake fishing.

The named closures are the exact-water trap. A licence can be correct while the exact place remains closed to sports fishing.

A Fish & Game licence does not make lake wind safe, open a closed bay, or grant private access. It only solves the angler's sports-fishing licence category when the plan stays in Fish & Game freshwater.
