The Ohau Channel and Kaituna River page is separate because this short corridor changes rules faster than a broad Rotorua Lakes page can explain. The current Eastern regulations split the water from the Lake Rotorua Outlet weir, through the Ohau Channel to Lake Rotoiti, then downstream of the Kaituna control gates and State Highway 2 bridge.
This page is narrower than Lake Rotoiti. Rotoiti covers the main lake and winter shoreline. This page handles the next check that causes mistakes: first decide whether the cast is in the first 200 m of Ohau Channel, the rest of the channel, Kaituna below the control gates, or Kaituna below SH2.

The SH2 bait/no-limit row should not be moved upstream to the control gates, Lake Rotoiti, or the Ohau Channel.
First 200 M, Downstream Channel, Or Kaituna
The first 200 m below the Lake Rotorua Outlet weir is the sharpest method trap: fly only. From the landmark about 200 m downstream to the Lake Rotoiti confluence, the method changes to fly and spin. Both Ohau rows are 1 October to 30 June, not all year.

Notes, Anchoring, And Bait
Note 5 says no trout fishing from an unanchored boat within 200 m of a landmark. The Eastern PDF also notes that boats are not permitted under Bay of Plenty Regional Navigation Safety Bylaws to anchor in the Ohau Channel. Keep the fishing row and boat-position wording together before planning a channel session.
